Song Circle: Guided by Lineage

Please join birdie to listen and share songs that have come to and through us. We will create an informal circle together and then take turns singing to each other in a virtual circle of song. If it works well and folx are interested I hope to offer this once per quarter, so this event will be focused on the songs that guide us and connect us to lineage.

Songs that were sung to us by those who taught and guided us, songs that we sing to our ancestors that have come before or those we hope to sing forward to those who will follow us, and more. Songs that help one further unfold the theme of the season for one’s self, in whatever way feels most real and present are highly welcome. In general, chatting and explaining will be discouraged in the song circle, to allow each song to rest in a circle of spacious silence. We will aim for presence, rather than performance, and process rather than perfection.

All skill levels welcome, and participation can include taking a turn singing for the group, staying muted and singing or moving along, or simply bathing in the music of our circle. Singers are asked to be mindful of our shared community values reflected in the statement of Unity and the solidarity statement shared during the opening storytime when making song choices.
