2022 Call for Teachers

Please Note the Deadline for Application is Midnight on December 21st

(#thewitchinghour #witchyAF)

Dear Community,

This is an invitation for applications from teachers and those who wish to step into the role of teacher at BC Witch Camp. We are working towards an in-person (yay!) camp, with pre-camp planning beginning on August 24 and camp finishing on September 3, 2022. We are honoured and grateful once again to gather on the land of the  Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw  (Squamish) Nation. If covid or other circumstances intervene in that plan, we will make magic accordingly.

This year’s camp will build on the lineage magic that was our year-long working with the story of Baba Yaga. From that camp, we carried forth the witches’ flame. We asked for visions for the next magic and Brigid answered.  Our intention for 2022 camp is:

“We bring our witches’ flame to Bridgid’s healing well.

We are tempered to make magic for the sovereignty of the land.”

The story will be Brigid’s Green Mantle. We are currently working on our version of the story but the basic plot is that Brigid asks for land for her Temple and the priests say no. Then they say fine, she can have as much land as her mantle can cover, thinking they have tricked her. And her priestesses magically stretch her mantle across the land.

We see the mantle in the story as the opposite of settler ownership. It is a spell “for the sovereignty of the land,” which is connected to:

  • Our years of work with the mycelium of the lands where we live and make magic, separately and together.
  • Our ongoing work as a camp (and as a tradition) to come into right relationship with First Nations and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Our years of work building the magic of relationship that can support the deeper work of love and justice and becoming a more anti-racist community, including ongoing work by our Culture Ship to support safer spaces and accountability processes within our community.
  • Our connection with beyond human ancestors and descendants. (Bridgid’s priestesses are more than human, too!)

  • Have the capacity to respond in a timely manner to planning emails, deadlines, i.e., for bios, path descriptions, etc., and to communication from the teacher liaison (Ember) and continuity teacher, (Bridgid).
  • Engage in regular (monthly-ish) 90-min planning meetings, starting in February.
  • Be informed by the community conversations on the BC Witchcamp email list and Facebook group and the notes from our visioning meeting as they shape the arc of the week.
  • Be committed to creating strong containers, stepping aside at surprising moments and finding innovative ways to create magic within community. We ask in particular that full teachers be prepared to provide mentorship and support to student teachers.
  • Have ideas for and be interested in teaching one of the following 3 paths: The Flame, The Well, The Forge. We imagine each of these paths will weave threads of magic into the common working for the sovereignty of the land. Since we are making cultural magic, we want to draw from our tradition.  We are interested in how potential teachers might bring the threads of our core classes –Elements, Iron Pentacle, Pearl Pentacle, Rites of Passage and Community Pentacle – into this weaving.

Pre-camp planning will occur August 24-27, 2022 and camp will be August 28-September 3. Planning will be in the part of turtle island that settlers named Vancouver, British Columbia, and camp will be near the part called Squamish, B.C.

If you feel called to work with our intention and serve community through teaching at BCWC 2022 please apply by following the two-step application process:

1. Please complete or update your teacher application online here: https://witchcamp.net/teaching/index.php

2. Please email a letter of interest to all three members of the Selection Committee listed below with the subject line “BCWC Teacher Application.” Let us know how the magic of working with Bridgid calls you and the specific skills or offerings you have to support our community in our work at BCWC. We are exploring possible ways to decentralize leadership and more fully access our community gifts as we endeavour to make teaching at camp more accessible. We’re looking at the possibility of one or two local teachers who are interested in either teaching path or evening rituals (but not both).  Teachers interested in this kind of focused role should include information on the role for which they are applying (path or evening ritual), any creative models or structures within which you would enjoy teaching, and/or ideas around decentralizing leadership. We are interested in making teaching at camp more sustainable and collaborative and would like to hear how you envision this working for you.

Please also describe your experience with (or enthusiasm for!) community priestexing including working with themes of justice. We are particularly interested in doing this work magically and in ways that are embodied, non-linear and deeply connected with the land.

Clicking on the teacher application form link leads to my security software blocking my access to the site, saying it is infected with a phishing virus. I am unable to access the link.

Hi Sophia- I just logged into the database, but I know you aren’t the only one who has had a challenge with that!! If you can’t access the site, just include in your letter of application what your witchcamp teaching experience is, a bit about your ritual skills (trance? Drumming? Spiral dance? Etc) and if you are applying to be a student teacher (1st, 2nd or 3rd year) or full teacher.
